WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America women's tennis team earned a win over Elizabethtown on Sunday afternoon at the Dowd Family Tennis Courts to clinch a spot in the playoffs as part of a Landmark Conference weekend.
Catholic defeated the Blue Jays, 8-1, but also fell to Moravian, 6-3, on Saturday.
The Cardinals won the top three singles and doubles matches against Elizabethtown in an impressive win.
Senior No. 1 Jenna Gietl was a two-time winner as she went over in the top singles spot, 6-4, 6-2, and teamed with junior Erin Cole to take the No. 1 doubles match, 8-5.
Cole also was victorious at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 7-5.
Gietl was actually a perfect 4-0 on the weekend as she downed Moravian's Emma Angle, 6-3, 6-0, and against teamed with Cole for an 8-4 win.
Catholic now awaits the final week of Landmark games to play out and find out their playoff opponent on Tuesday, May 1.
