Box Score 2 Huntingdon, Pa. - The Catholic University of America softball team advanced its Landmark Conference record to 7-5 with a pair of wins over Juniata College on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals captured game one with a final score of 7-6 and played the Eagles to a 5-2 decision in game two.
Catholic senior Alyssa Keane went 3-of-6 on the day with seven RBIs including a grand slam in game one.
Junior Kelly Lynch earned her 10th win of the season in the circle after pitching 5.2 innings of game one. Freshman Allie Lajeunesse relieved Lynch for the final 1.1 innings and tossed one strikeout. Sophomore Sabrina Scott threw a full seven inning in game two with three strikeouts.
Keane got things started for the Cardinals in the third inning of game one with a 2-RBI single up the middle, which scored her classmate Megan Colline and rookie Taylor Forgen. Freshman Juliet Lodes drove in her classmate McKenzie Plante in the top of the fifth before Keane lobbed a 4-run homer over the fence to claim game one.
In game two, with the bases loaded in the third inning, Colline kept an eye on the pitches to walk home freshman Giselle Diaz. Next, Keane singled up the middle to bring home Makayla Czan before the Eagles we able to retire the inning.
Tied at two runs apiece, Catholic junior Rebecca Marks hit an RBI-single that brought home Forgen for the winning run in the fifth.
The Cards sealed the victory in the seventh inning when Lodes scored Plante on a double to center field and later came home on a single from Lajeuness.
The Cardinals are set to travel to Hood College on Sunday, April 29 for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
