Cardinals Topped at Goucher, 8-1

WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America men's tennis team played its third-to-last contest of the 2018 season at Goucher on Wednesday afternoon but the Cardinals were topped, 8-1.

The Cards earned their lone win of the afternoon in hard-fought fashion as sophomore Kyle Weber and rookie Frankie Fortunati combined for the No. 3 doubles win.

It was a back-and-forth battle that came down to a tie-breaker with each tandem tied at 7-all. The Cards' duo came away with the win thanks to a 7-3 decider.

Weber also had a close match in the No. 5 singles spot as he came back from a 6-3 fall in the first set before forcing a tiebreaker in the second at six-all. It was Goucher that was able to rebound however with the 7-4 deciding set.

Catholic wraps its 2018 regular season with two home Landmark matches this weekend. The Cards welcome Moravian to Brookland on Saturday before hosting Elizabethtown on Sunday. Both contests are set for 1 p.m.
