McConkey Wins 300th as Cardinals Down St. Vincent & Emmanuel

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Clermont, Fla. The Catholic University of America softball head coach Bruce McConkey earned his 300th and 301st career victories as his team went a perfect 2-0 on day two of the annual PFX Spring Games. The Cardinals downed St. Vincent, 10-7, and walked off against Emmanuel (Mass.), 3-2.

McConkey has had every one of his victories come on the bench of Catholic and has 10 winning seasons in his 16 campaigns. He has seven 20-win seasons and four 25-win years, all coming in the past eight years.

Catholic's bats came alive in game one of the day with 11 hits before strong pitching and a clutch, walkoff double from senior Alyssa Keane gave the Cards the win in game two.

In a game between two explosive offenses, Catholic led by just one, 6-4, going into the bottom of the sixth against St. Vincent, but junior Hailey Horton delivered with a two-RBI single to help seal the victory.

Horton finished the game 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run. Seniors Megan Colline and Keane combined to go 4-for-6 with two RBI each.

Junior pitcher Kelly Lynch controlled game two from the circle as she tossed a complete game with seven strikeouts and allowed just one earned run.

Catholic trailed, 1-0, in the bottom of the third but sophomore Marissa Deblasie quickly evened the score as she homered to center field.

Four batters later, it was Colline that delivered a sacrifice fly to put the Cards up. Emmanuel tied it against in the fifth, but Keane was there to supply the walkoff with two outs in the inning.

Catholic has a day off before returning to action on Wednesday, March 7, against Concordia (Ill.) and Bridgewater St., at 9 a.m., and 2 p.m., respectively.
