Box Score 2 WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America softball team went extra frames in both games of a Landmark Conference doubleheader against Susquehanna but were edged, 5-3, in nine innings of game one and 8-3 in 10 innings during the second.
Catholic forced extra innings in both as the Cardinals overcame a 3-0 third-inning deficit in game one and a 3-0 hole in the seventh inning of game two.
It was Susquehanna that was able to triumph late however as the River Hawks plated two in the ninth of the first game and then five in the 10th of contest two to come away with the wins.
Senior Megan Colline got the Cards back into game one with a two-run home run before rookie Makayla Czan tied it on a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Catholic stormed back with its back against the wall in the nightcap as Colline forced in a run after being hit by a pitch to set up the game-tying hit by classmate Alyssa Keane on a two-RBI single.
Keane had a day to remember as she registered her 100th career hit in the doubleheader.
Junior pitcher Kelly Lynch kept the Cards alive during game one as she pitched all nine innings, allowing just two earned runs with six strikeouts.
Sophomore starter Sabrina Scott followed with a nine-inning performance of her own with five strikeouts.
Catholic will look to get back on the winning track with a midweek road trip to Stevenson on Tuesday, April 3, at Stevenson.
