Box Score 2 WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America softball team continued its strong run as of late as the Cardinals swept Rutgers-Camden, taking game one by run rule, 9-1, before using a combined no-hitter in the second contest, 2-1.
Sophomores Claire Sturek and Sabrina Scott combined to dominate in the circle. Sturek drew the start and got the win as she went five innings with three strikeouts before Scott came on for two clean innings with a K of her own and the save.
Freshman Makayla Czan went 2-for-2 in that game and added a run and a walk. Senior Alyssa Keane came up with the pivotal RBI in the game while a Scarlet Raptor error on the same played allowed a second run to score.
Rutgers-Camden got their lone run on an error.
While Catholic pitching was the headline of game two, the Cardinal bats were hot in the first game as the amassed 10 hits in just 5.2 innings and scored in all but one inning.
Czan and junior second baseman Hailey Horton each went 3-for-4 in the game. Czan scored three times with an RBI while Horton plated three of her own with a run.
Sophomore Shannon Harrington ended the first game with an RBI single to eclipse the eight-run limit.
Catholic will have a day off before hosting Susquehanna in a Landmark doubleheader at 1 p.m.
