Box Score 2 WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America softball team opened Landmark Conference play on Saturday afternoon at home but were topped by the No. 22-ranked Moravian Greyhounds, 2-0 and 6-0.
The Cardinals ran into one of the top pitchers in the region as Moravian's Jessie Novak shut out the Cards with 12 strikeouts and just two hits allowed. Rookie Makayla Czan and Giselle Diaz each picked up a hit in the game.
Sophomore starter Sabrina Scott did well to limit the Greyhounds to just two runs as she scattered six hits and did not walk a batter in a complete-game effort.
The Cardinal bats tried to lock in during game two as not a single Card struck out, but Catholic could only come up with four hits.
Moravian stuck early on an RBI single before a wild pitch and another single made it 3-0 after the first.
The two teams traded scoreless frames until the sixth when the Greyhounds added on three more.
Catholic continues Landmark play on Saturday, March 24 with a doubleheader against Drew set for 1 p.m.
