No. 15 Catholic Downs No. 21 St. Mary's, 16-10

St. Mary's, Md. - No. 15 The Catholic University of America claimed its midweek contest with a 16-10 triumph over No. 21 St. Mary's College of Maryland on Wednesday afternoon.

The Cardinals utilized six different goal scorers as senior Nicolette Crisalli led Catholic's offensive efforts with seven goals and two assists. Sophomore Nanci Hernandez was credited with the win after making five saves in the first half. Hernandez split time between the pipes with junior Christina De Cesaris who recorded seven saves.

Rookie Sydney Hartman led the team with four groundballs while her classmates Bridget Beck and Anna Maupin each registered their first career assists.

The Seahawks scored the first two goals of the game in the opening five minutes before Crisalli equalized with two for the Cardinals before the 10-minute mark. Crisalli's goals started Catholic a 5-goal streak with junior Megan Ellis capitalizing next on a free position opportunity followed by a goal apiece from sophomores Holly Regan and Ally Criscuolo.

Crisalli recorded three additional goals in the first half while junior Jessica Lyons notched two and fellow junior Molly Kelly scored one.

Following the break sophomore Wendy El took advantage of a free position shot to advance the Catholic lead to 12-5. Next, Crisalli scored her sixth goal of the event before St. Mary's snuck two into the net.

Ellis scored Catholic's 14th and Crisalli ripped in the 15th goal of the day. With under three minutes on the game clock, Ellis scored her third goal of the game and brought the Cardinals final tally to 16.

Up next, Catholic travels to Newport News, Va., take on Christopher Newport University at 3 p.m., on Saturday, March 3.
