WASHINGTON – Catholic University women's basketball sophomore Cristin George led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points in the Cardinals' 67-37 victory over Wesley in the opening round of the Jamie Lynn Roberts Tournament presented by the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Washington D.C./Downtown on Saturday.

Sophomores Becca Rhoades and Maggie Rakowsky added 10 points each for the Cards (6-4) who will play Neumann in the championship game on Sunday at 3 p.m.

The win on Franny Murray Court at DuFour Center came in the 500th career game for Catholic head coach Matt Donohue after stops at Bloomfield, Elmira and Catholic.

Monshea Newsome-Murray led all scorers with 13 points and had three steals and five assists for Wesley (3-7). Shelby Johnson contributed nine points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.

Catholic scored 26 points on the Wolverines' 29 turnovers and outscored its opponent, 38-13, off the bench.

George produced all of her points from beyond the arc. The 5-foot-8 guard from Bethesda, Md., finished 4-of-6 from distance. She added four boards and three assists in 19 minutes of play.

After making just 2 of 16 3-pointers in the first half, the Cards heated up after halftime. They sank 9-of-15 to break open a game they led 25-20 at the break.

Junior Megan Stafford recorded five of the Cardinals' 15 steals and had five points and two blocks. No player played more than 24 minutes for Catholic who never trailed.
