Box Score Bethlehem, Pa. — In a heated Landmark Conference battle on Saturday afternoon, The Catholic University of America men's basketball team was edged in overtime at Moravian, 103-101. The contest featured 15 lead changes and nine ties.
The Cardinals got a career-high 31 points from junior Jimmy Golaszewski as he went 11-of-16 from the field with five 3-pointers. Senior Jay Howard posted 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists and he got the runner in the lane to force overtime with four seconds left.
The two teams continued to trade the advantage in the extra period but four Moravian free throws in the final 38 seconds made the difference.
Moravian improves to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in the Landmark while Catholic falls to 8-7, 2-2.
Sophomore Riley Hayes joined Howard as players with double-doubles as he scored 18 points and grabbed 14 boards; seven off the offensive glass. He also blocked a career-best six shots and had three steals.
Junior Andre Mitchell was one of four Cards in double-digit points at 18. Sophomore Brandon Easton and Ross Gerber came off the bench for four points each.
Catholic was able to overcome a four-point halftime deficit but the Greyhounds' proficiency from long range that made the difference as they connected on 22-of-37 attempts from beyond the 3-point arc.
The Cardinals will look to get back on track with two landmark home games next week, the first on Wednesday, January 17 at 7 p.m., against Goucher.
