Aston, Pa. - The Catholic University of America volleyball team took part in the challenging Neumann Fall Classic this weekend as the Cardinals played in four matches over Friday and Saturday. The Cards downed Rutgers-Camden, but fell to Widener, Haverford and Cabrini.

In the win over RU-C, senior opposite side hitter Maria Cristina Juelle had 25 kills in just four sets as she hit .314 for the match. She also went for the double-double with 11 digs.

Senior Michelle Seals once again keyed the offense as she racked up 38 assists and just missed the double-dip with nine digs.

Catholic and Widener split the first two sets of their match, but Catholic could not get past 21 points in either of the final two sets.

Juelle once again had a match-high in kills with 17, while Seals also had the most assists in the game with 40.

Despite the strong numbers, Catholic could not overcome 16 blocks and six service aces by Widener.

Catholic also went four sets against Haverford and in the same fashion, split the first two sets and went 25-21 in the third. Haverford was able to close it out in the fourth, however.

Freshman Patricia Martinez had a team-high 14 kills and got the double-double with 14 digs, but Haverford hit .220 for the match and added six service aces to take the win.

The Cardinals also ran into a strong Cabrini team and fell in straight sets.

Juelle had a team-high 10 kills in just three games, but no other Card registered more than six.

For her efforts over the four-game tournament, freshman libero Christina Ciola was selected to the all-tournament team.

Catholic will look to get back on the winning track this Wednesday when the Cardinals return home to the DuFour center for a midweek matchup against Frostburg State at 7 p.m.
