Cardinals Sweep Gophers in Dominant Fashion

WASHINGTON, D.C.
- The Catholic volleyball team dominated Goucher on Tuesday evening to earn its second Landmark Conference victory. The Cardinals swept the Gophers in impressive fashion at Franny Murray Court.

Catholic defeated Goucher by 10 or more points across all three sets in the dominant victory. In the first set, they quickly found a groove, but the Gophers stayed within reach. Late in the set is when the Cardinals began to run away with it. They scored seven of the last 10 points, three of which came from Julia Raab kills. Vivian O'Brien maintained the 10-point advantage over Goucher as she took the last point of the set with an ace to win 25-15.

Catholic kept the upper hand in the second set, with an attack percentage of 0.308 and 11 kills. They had multiple incredible runs to build a commanding lead over Goucher. The first point was a service ace from Anna Maria Carella, and the Cardinals continued with three-straight during her service line. When Raab was up to serve, Catholic picked up four more points, where she earned a service ace. Alejandra Garcia

The Gophers scored sporadically throughout the second set, but Catholic defense kept them at bay, winning 25-10 to go up two sets.

In set three, Goucher took its first lead of the game, going up 7-6 over Catholic. The Cardinals relit their fire, and during Marin Stensrud's service line, they scored nine-straight, three points coming by way of Stensrud service ace. Raab and Mariana Roman Cruz sandwiched the run with a kill each.

The final three points went to Catholic. Elianette Escalera found the floor to put Catholic up 23-10. They logged another point by attack error, then Escalera sent another one past the Gophers to solidify the match victory.

Catholic had 12 service aces in the game, five of which came from Alejandra Garcia.

Carella once again led the team in assists, making 14 in the game. Her season total now sits at 315, and career total at 1,283. Chloe Mamrosch was second on the assist leaderboard with eight.

Raab led the team with 10 kills, recording an attack percentage of .409. This marks her eighth game with double figure kills, and brings her season total to 171.

Defensively, Laci Freitas had a solid day of diffing, logging 11 digs. Garcia had seven on the day. At the net, Maddie Wilkey and Juliette Cummings each had two solo blocks against the Gophers.

Catholic improves its record to 7-14 overall on the season, and Landmark Conference record to 2-3.
