Box Score 2 WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America softball team picked up two nonconference wins on Sunday afternoon as the Cardinals swept Shenandoah, 2-1 and 5-0.
Catholic came back from a 1-0 third inning deficit in game one before blanking the Hornets in game two.
Senior Erin Adams stole home to tie up the first game before a fourth-inning sacrifice fly by junior Rachel Valdes gave the Cards the win.
Rookie pitcher Claire Sturek earned her third win of the year as she brought a no-hitter into the fourth and struck out five in five innings. Fellow freshman Sabrina Scott then came in for two hitless innings for the save.
Adams got the game-winner in the first with an RBI single in the first before her classmate Rebekah Hoisl added and RBI single in the second for the insurance run.
A three-run third started by and RBI single by Adams clinched the victory.
Sophomore starter Kelly Lynch went for the complete-game shutout as struck out two and only walked one.
The Cardinals will get a two-week break with Easter Sunday next week before hosting Hood the following Wednesday.
