WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America women's tennis team improved to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in Landmark Conference play with a decisive win at Goucher on Wednesday afternoon, 8-1.
Cardinals No. 1 Laura Torsiello led the way with a strong win in singles action, 6-0, 6-2. The senior also combined with junior Sarah MacLean for an impressive win at No. 1 doubles win as they were victorious in tie-break fashion, 9-8 (7-5).
MacLean was also a two game winner as she went over the Gopher's No. 3 singles player, 6-4, 6-1.
Catholic made it a strong showing as the top of the card as junior Jenna Gietl earned the win at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1, and teamed with sophomore Erin Cole to earn a decisive win at No. 2 doubles, 8-1.
Cole also joined the trio as two-time winners as she earned a tie-break victory at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7).
Catholic looks to improve on its 7-2 records since March this weekend when the Cardinals start a Landmark doubleheader weekend at Moravian on Saturday at 1 p.m.
