WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America softball suffered two defeats on its second day of action at the PFX Spring Games in Clearwater Fla. The Cardinals scored six runs in two separate seven-inning comebacks, but fell to Lebanon Valley, 5-2, as well as Alvernia, 7-6.

Errors hurt the Cards in their game versus Lebanon Valley as sophomore starter Kelly Lynch tossed a complete game while allowing just one earned run, but four unearned ones also came across.

Junior catcher Alyssa Keane went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, while senior Molly MacNeill picked up Catholic's other run with an RBI double. Both hits came in the bottom of the seventh as the Cards rallied, but could get no closer.

Against Alvernia, the Cardinals faced a 4-1 deficit after two innings and a 7-1 hole after four.

Undeterred, Catholic got one back in the fifth after Rebekah Hoisl scored on an error before an impressive four-run seventh frame.

Hoisl started it with an RBI single and then sophomore Hailey Horton came around to score via an error on the next play.

Senior Erin Adams followed with a sacrifice fly and junior Megan Colline came through with an RBI single to make it four-straight runs in as many plate appearances.

The Cards appeared to have the tie after junior Rachel Valdes singled to center with a runner on third, but the throw home was ruled an out.

Catholic now has a day off before the Cardinals take on Penn State Brandywine and Mount Union tomorrow afternoon.
