Mitchell's 33 Points Lead Catholic Past Gallaudet, 91-64

WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America men's basketball team got a career-high 33 points from junior guard Andre Mitchell as the Cardinals used a strong second half to roll past D.C. foe Gallaudet on Saturday evening inside the DuFour Center, 91-64.

Mitchell was sensational as he scored his new personal-best in just 26 minutes of action. He went 9-of-18 from the field, 4-of-9 from 3-point range and 11-of-12 from the free throw line. He added six rebounds, two assists and two steals while not committing a turnover.

Gallaudet came out strong and scored the first seven points of the game for its largest lead, but Catholic quickly answered with an 11-5 run to make it a one-point game.

Back-to-back triples by Mitchell with six minutes to play in the first half gave Catholic a 26-23 lead as the Cardinals would not trail again.

The Cards held a 42-37 halftime advantage but quickly built their lead to double-digits with another 11-5 run to start the second stanza.

The Bison closed to within 12 at 61-49, but the Cardinals had one more big run in them as they answered with an 11-2 stretch to build a 21-point advantage.

After shooting just 37-percent from the field in the first half, Catholic netted half of its buckets in the second. The Cardinals also dominated the boards, 50-26, including a 24-8 advantage on the offensive glass.

The Catholic offense was clicking as well 21 of its 29 made baskets were assisted. The Cards also shot 82.8-percent from the line on 29 attempts.

Sophomore Collin Hartmann was second of the team in scoring as he chipped a new career high with 15 points. He added four rebounds, four assists and two treys.

Junior Jimmy Golaszewski added 15 points with three triples and was second on the team with six rebounds. Sophomore Riley Hayes pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and just missed the double-double with nine points.

Catholic will look to keep the momentum going tomorrow when the Cardinals travel to Gettysburg at 2 p.m.
