WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America women's tennis team won its first match of the year in impressive fashion, defeating St. Mary's on the road, 8-1.
The Cardinals swept all singles matches, dropping just eight points outside the No. 1 match.
Senior Laura Torsiello had a strong competition with St. Mary's one, Mariss Romanek. Torsiello dropped the first set, 6-3, but came back to win the next by the same score and earned the tie-breaker, 10-5.
Junior Jenna Gietl won two matches for Catholic, winning 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 singles actions and then 8-1 at No. 2 doubles along with Erin Cole.
Next up, the Cardinals go crosstown to take on Trinity (D.C.) on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
