WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America volleyball team improved to 9-3 to start the season, earning two wins on Friday at the Neumann Invitational. The Cardinals downed Rutgers-Camden in straight sets (25-16, 25-13, 25-18) before defeating Widener, 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22).

Catholic posted nine team blocks in the match against Rutgers-Camden as senior middle hitter Kathryn Herrington registered six stops at the net and added five kills on nine attacks. 

Rookie outside hitter Isabelle Cooper led the team with seven kills and was one of six Cards with at least three kills. Junior setter Michelle Seals assisted on 26 of 33 Catholic kills and went for the double-double with 10 digs.

The Cardinals overcome a slow start against Widener and rallied from a 1-0 deficit to win the final three sets.

Junior Brynn Cooley led the way in the second game with her second double-double of the season, posting a team-high 11 kills to go along with 17 digs. She filled the stat sheet with three service aces and two blocks.

Cooley was joined by Maria Cristina Juelle and Mary Paige Nesfeder as double-digit kill Cardinals as they totaled 11 and 10, respectively.

The Cards have two more games in Aston, Pa., at the Mirenda Center, taking on Baruch and Swarthmore on Saturday.
