Juniata, Pa. – The Catholic University of America men's tennis team saw its season come to an end in the Landmark Conference Semifinals, as the Cardinals were topped by Juniata, 5-0.
No. 3 seed Catholic faced off against the No. 2 seed Eagles and were brought the final doubles match of the afternoon to a tiebreaker, but Juniata took all three matches before winning the next two singles for the win.
The Cards No. 2 doubles team of sophomore Rob Alexander and Matthew Holtschneider battled back to force a tie at 8-8, but Juniata ended the comeback with a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker.
Sophomore Jan Lasota put forth a strong effort at No. 2 singles, fighting back to tie the second set at six-all after falling, 7-5, in the first, but Juniata was able to win its other two singles bouts to earn the victory.
The Cards end the season with an 8-8 overall record, going 5-3 in conference play, including wins in their final three games of the regular season and five of their last six.
