Women's Tennis Downs Drew and Susquehanna

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America women's tennis team closed out the regular season with two wins to qualify for the 2016 Landmark Conference Championship Tournament.

The Cardinals went on the road Saturday to defeat Drew, 7-2, before returning back home, downing Susquehanna, 7-0, indoors at the Fairland Athletic Center.

Junior Laura Torsiello picked up the win at No. 1 singles, going over Drew's Katie Marshall, 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Sarah MacLean, senior Lindsay Rekstis and freshmen Erin Cole and Maria Flores all picked up singles wins.

Junior Jenna Gietl combined with Cole to win No. 2 doubles, 8-4, and were followed by the team of Rekstis and Flores, who won 8-6.

The Cardinals followed it up with a strong performance against Susquehanna, as they did not drop a game.

Torsiello again led the way with two wins along with MacLean who she teamed with at No. 1 doubles. Gietl also won at No. 2 singles and doubles.

The Cards are now on to the playoffs, traveling to Elizabethtown on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
