WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's tennis team secured a spot in the 2016 Landmark Conference Championship Tournament with victories over Drew and Susquehanna this past weekend.
The Cardinals hit the road to defeat Drew on Sunday, before returning home to down Susquehanna indoors at the College Park Tennis Center. Both wins came by a 6-3 score.
Junior Juan Lorido led the way at Drew, winning at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2, and combined with senior Rocky Alhaqbani to win in the top doubles spot, 8-6. Alhaqbani was also victorious at No. 4 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
The Cards also took No. 3 doubles as the team of Jan Lasota and Ted Tiu combined for an 8-4 win. Tiu also won at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 0-6, 1-0 (7-2).
Catholic continued its strong play against Susquehanna, winning every singles match. Lorido and Alhaqbani also combined for another win at No. 1 doubles, 8-4.
With a 5-3 conference record, the No. 3 Cards will hit the road to take on No. 2 Juniata on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
