Box Score WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's lacrosse team played a thrilling game against Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Stadium, but were edged on a last-second goal, 15-14.
The Cardinals trailed by as many as three in the second half, but stormed back to tie the game at 10-all in the fourth quarter. The two teams traded goals for the final nine minutes, but the Eagles had the final answer, scoring with just two ticks left.
Tied at 13-all and with only 34 seconds left, Mary Washington broke the stalemate as Jack Carver scored his third of the game.
Not to be outdone, junior Victor Licata won the very next faceoff and then buried the feed from sophomore Bennett Bradley to tie the game 14 with 14 seconds remaining.
It was the Eagles that owned the final score however, winning the next showdown in the circle and finding the back on the net for the win.
Licata filled up the stat sheet for Catholic as the team's leading scorer with three goals to go along with seven ground balls and nine face-offs won.
Bradley also posted a strong line, totaling a game-high six points on three goals and three assists. He also added four ground balls.
Senior goalkeeper Harrison Holak faced 32 shots in the game and came up with 17 saves for the Cardinals.
Catholic finishes its nonconference schedule with a 6-3 record and now focuses on Landmark play, beginning with a home showdown with Susquehanna next Saturday at 1 p.m.
