Box Score 2 WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America softball team swept its final series of the season, downing Juniata, as the Cardinals clinched the No. 2 seed in the Landmark Conference Championship Tournament. The Cards took game one, 7-2, before winning in game two, 2-1.
Junior Alyssa Keane came up with the game-winning hit in the first contest, mashing a home a two-run home in the bottom of the fourth. She finished game one 2-for-3 with two runs.
Rookie pitcher Kelly Lynch took care of the rest, going the distance while allowing just one earned run with four strikeouts.
Game two was closer, but the result was the same as sophomore Megan Colline made sure the Cards came away with the sweep. She too went the distance in the circle, allowing just two hits on only one run. She also pushed across the first run of the game in the third inning on an RBI double.
Catholic got the game-winning run in the fifth inning from the bat of freshman Hailey Horton who singled to center, scoring junior Kristina Lozupone.
Win the wins, the Cardinals improve to 24-10 and 9-3 in the Landmark games. As the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, hosted by Moravian, Catholic will face off against No. 3 Susquehanna on Friday, May 6, at 1 p.m., in the double-elimination playoffs.
