Catholic Downs Moravian 7-2 in Landmark Tennis Weekend

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America women's tennis team split a Landmark Conference weekend, falling to Juniata, 6-3, before picking up a road victory at Moravian, 7-2.

Sophomore Jenna Gietl led way for Catholic in the Cardinals win over the Greyhounds, winning at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-3, while teaming with rookie Erin Cole to win No. 2 doubles, 8-4.

Cole also picked up a win in singles competition, winning at No. 5, 6-2, 6-3.

Catholic No. 1 singles competitor Laura Torsiello earned a big win against Moravian, winning 6-4, 6-1.

Torsiello helped the Cards earn one of their three wins against Juniata, teaming with sophomore Sarah MacLean to win a hotly-contested No. 1 doubles match in a tiebreaker, 9-8, 7-0.

Gietl earned her third win of the weekend in No. 2 singles action, winning over Juniata's Rachel Yurchisin, 6-3, 6-0.

With one weekend left on the regular season schedule, the Cardinals have two crucial matches with playoff implications. Catholic heads up to Drew on Saturday before returning home to take on Susquehanna on Sunday.
