Box Score 2 WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America softball team earned its 21st win of the year in a split doubleheader at Stevenson on Sunday. The Cardinals won the first game by run-rule, 9-0, before they were edge in game two, 5-4.
Junior Erin Adams came up big again for Catholic, going 2-for-3 out of the cleanup spot with a home run, double and three RBI. Seven different Cardinals registered hits in the initial game, scoring four runs in the third, three in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Rookie pitcher Kelly Lynch tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just one hit over five innings while striking out one.
Adams was joined by junior shortstop Rebekah Hoisl, sophomore DP Megan Colline and freshman second baseman Hailey Horton as Cards to score two runs in the victory.
Catholic took an early lead with two runs in the first inning of game two and despite two Stevenson comebacks, the Cardinals scored again in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead. Stevenson had one last comeback in them however, plating two in the sixth to go back ahead for the split.
Colline, Adams and Horton each registered two hits in the contest with Colline and Horton each adding two RBI. Colline also smacked a home run in the game.
Catholic wraps up nonconference and road regular season play this Wednesday with a doubleheader at Frostburg State.
