Box Score 2 WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America softball team grinded out a Landmark Conference sweep over Drew thanks to a big home run from sophomore Megan Colline in game one, who then came back to go the distance in the circle in game two.
Colline blasted a three-run home run in the third inning of game one as rookie pitcher Kelly Lynch went the distance with five strikeouts in a shutout of the Rangers, 3-0.
The Cardinals were also extremely active on the basepaths with four steals in game one. Junior Rebekah Hoisl went 2-for-2 and added two stolen bases in the 3-0 win. Junior Molly MacNeill and sophomore Rachel Valdes each added a steal of their own.
Drew struck first in game two with a run in the first inning, but Catholic came back to plate three runs in the bottom of the frame, including an RBI single by junior Erin Adams, who also came around to score the winning run in the 3-2 victory.
Colline not only added another run in game two, but struck out four in a second-straight complete game effort for the Cardinals, not allowing an earned run.
The second-year player also came up big in the third inning, getting out a bases-loaded, no-out jam. She induced a fielder's choice to get the runner at home and then started a 1-2-3 double play on the next batter to end the inning.
The Cardinals now hit the road with nonconference doubleheaders at Hood (4/20), Stevenson (4/24) and Frostburg State (4/27) before returning home to wrap up Landmark play and the regular season against Juniata (4/30).
