WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America women's tennis team earned three victories over Scranton on Sunday afternoon on the the Dowd Family Courts, but the Royals picked up six wins to secure the victory.
The Cardinals picked up all their wins in singles competition as they took the number three, four and six matches.
Sophomore Sarah MacLean got the win at No. 3, going over 7-5, 6-3. Senior Lindsay Rekstis followed with a victory at No. 4 in a hard-fought match. Rekstis took the first set, 6-4, and came back to win 10-3 after a close loss in the second set, 7-5.
Rookie Erin Cole followed with the victory at No. 6 in another hotly-contested match. Cole took the first set 7-6, getting the final point 4-2, but dropped the second, 6-2. She came back to earn the win however, 10-6.
The Cardinals continue Landmark play this Saturday at Elizabethtown, beginning at 1 p.m.
