Box Score 2 Clermont, Fla. – The Catholic University of America softball team capped an impressive start to the season at the PFX Spring Games, going 8-2 overall, splitting its final two games of the tournament with Roger Williams and Johnson Wales, 7-1 and 8-9, respectively.
Rookie Kelly Lynch tossed a complete game, one-run effort against Roger Williams, striking out nine to earn her fourth win of the season.
Sophomore Alyssa Keane went 2-for-4 against RWU with a home run, double and two runs. It was her second long ball of the year. Rachel Valdes, Kristina Lozupone and Christy Sanchez joined Keane with two hits each. Sanchez also led the Cardinals with three RBI.
CUA combined with Johnson & Wales for 24 hits in offensive explosion. The Cardinals trailed by three in the top of the seventh, but forced their way back into the game with a late comeback.
Junior Rebekah Hoisl and Lozupone each tallied two-out RBI singles to bring Catholic within one run, but Johnson & Wales was able to induce the final out to secure the win.
The Cards continue its 14-game road swing to open the season with a doubleheader at Shenandoah on Sunday, March 13, starting at 1 p.m.
