Cardinals Fall in Landmark Opener Against Goucher

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's tennis team played its second-straight home match at the Dowd Family Tennis Courts but fell in its Landmark Conference opener against league-leading Goucher, 8-1.

Despite the loss, the Cardinals picked up a strong victory in the match as No. 1 singles competitor Juan Lorido was won over Goucher's Joey Caracappa, 6-1, 6-2.

Lorido also teamed with senior Rocky Alhaqbani at No. 1 doubles and put forth a strong effort, but came up short, 8-5. Alhaqbani fought back to win 7-5 after a 6-4 loss at No. 4 singles, but was forced to retire.

At No. 2 singles, sophomore Jan Lasota picked up a first set win, 6-1, but Goucher's Jack Hodges came back to win 6-1, 6-2. Lasota and rookie Ted Tiu teamed up at No. 3 doubles, but also fell 8-5.

Catholic continues its stretch of eight-straight Landmark foes to end the regular season, played at Merchant Marie this Saturday, before playing on the road against Moravian on Sunday. Both matches will start at 1 p.m.
