CUA Softball Splits Landmark Opener at Moravian

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Bethlehem, Pa. – The Catholic University of America softball team opened Landmark Conference play on the road Saturday, splitting with Moravian to improve its overall season record to 11-3. CUA fell in the first game, 8-3, but rebounded for a 9-4 victory to round out the doubleheader.

The Cardinals trailed Moravian 4-1 in the fourth inning after falling in game number one, but rallied to plate eight runs in the fifth inning to split with the Greyhounds.

Third baseman Erin Adams moved in to the cleanup spot and delivered with a grand slam in the fifth. Senior Christy Sanchez also delivered a home run in the same inning, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs in the game.

Sanchez was red-hot in the doubleheader, also homering in game number one, delivering two RBI in the contest.

The story of the first meeting of 2016 between the two schools was the pitching of Moravian's Josie Novak, as she went for the complete game and eight strikeouts while allowing just three runs.

CUA bounced back in a big way however, exploding for eight runs on five hits to go ahead and eventually secure the win.

After 14 games away from Washington, D.C., the Cardinals will finally open home play this Thursday at 1 p.m., with a double header versus Gwynedd Mercy.
