WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's tennis team played its first home match on the Spring on Saturday and despite several strong performances, the Cardinals were edged, 5-4.
Catholic was victorious at No. 1 singles as Jan Lasota went 6-4,-6-2 over York's Sam Innerst. Matthew Holtschneider followed Lasota's lead, earning the win at No. 2 over Devin Lehigh, 6-0, 6-4.
Senior captain Rocky Alhaqbani also picked up a singles win, downing Aaron Marti, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 4. Alhaqbani went on to combine with Jon Purowitz to earn CUA a doubles victory at No. 3, winning 8-4.
The Cardinals return to the Dowd Family Tennis Courts at the end of the month as they open Landmark Conference action, hosting Goucher at 3 p.m., on Wednesday, March 30.
