Box Score 2 WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America volleyball team improved 19-5, winning its fifth and sixth straight games, going undefeated at the Kean Invitational on Saturday. The Cardinals defeated New Rochelle and Alvernia, thanks large-in-part to tournament MVP, Kathryn Herrington.
Catholic racked up 10 blocks and 48 kills in a 3-1 win over New Rochelle before rolling in straight sets past Alvernia.
Herrington went for a match-high 11 kills in the win over New Rochelle, adding a block, three digs, a service ace and two digs. Fellow senior Mary Paige Nesfeder matched her offensive output with 11 kills of her own and also filled the statsheet with three aces, four digs and a block.
It the second time this season that Herrington has earned tournament MVP honors.
Junior setter Michelle Seals went for her 10th double-double of the season with 32 assists and 12 digs, adding an ace and two blocks.
The Cards went on to hit .432 in the game versus Alvernia, racking up 46 kills on 88 attacks. Nesfeder posted a match-high 14 kills and just missed a double-double with nine digs.
Nesfeder was selected to the all-tournament team.
Juniors Maria Cristina Juelle and Brynn Cooley also reached double-digit kills, registering 11 and 10, respectively. Seals assisted on 40 of the Cardinals' kills.
After playing nine-straight on the road, the Cards return home this Thursday when they host Stevenson at 7 p.m.
