WASHINGTON – Despite two losses on its final Landmark Conference weekend, The Catholic University of America volleyball team qualified for the 2016 league tournament with a 4-2 overall record. The Cards fell at Juniata and to Susquehanna, but clinch the No. 3 seed in the playoffs behind those to teams.

The Cards fell to undefeated Juniata, but will avoid them in the first round of the Landmark Tournament. Susquehanna also topped Catholic, 3-0, but the Cardinals will have a chance for redemption in the Landmark Semifinals on Wednesday, November 2.

Senior outside hitter Mary Paige Nesfeder had a team-high nine kills against Susquehanna but no other player had more than three as the River Hawks used a well-rounded effort to win the match.

Catholic played Juniata, who has never lost a conference match and made every NCAA DIII Tournament since its inception, tough. The Cards were edged 25-21 and 25-19 in the final two sets.

Nesfeder once again led the way offensively with eight kills while junior setter Michelle Seals assisted on 18 of 25 kills and went for the double-double with 12 digs.

Landmark play may be wrapped up, but Catholic still has six more game before facing Susquehanna again, including its final home match and senior night against Trinity on Tuesday, October 25.
