Towson, Md. – The Catholic University of America men's basketball team was without its All-American, Bryson Fonville, on Thursday night at Goucher, but thanks to an impressive shooting showing and a big double-double by Jay Howard, the Cardinals rolled past the Gophers, 89-60.

Howard went off for 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting and added a second game-high with 13 rebounds. The second-year star added four assists and two steals to his stat line, playing a contest-high 35 minutes.

Fellow frontcourt force Corey Stanford was just behind Howard's lead, totaling 17 points and seven rebounds, both second-best in the game. Stanford totaled three 3-pointers and four assists in 34 minutes.

The Cardinals were lights out all game long from the field, shooting over 50 percent (32-of-63) from the field, including a 44.4 percent mark from long range (12-of-27).

Junior Jeff Holland enjoyed a career game off the bench, scoring 19 points in 20 minutes. Holland fired off 11 shots, eight from distance, and knocked down four triples. He also registered three rebounds and two steals.

Rookie Andre Mitchell took over the point guard reigns for night in place of Fonville and dished out a career-high seven assists while chipping in 10 points and four rebounds.

Catholic did well to win the rebounding advantage, 38-29, and forced 17 Gopher turnovers that led to 22 points for the Cards.

CUA looks to continue advancing their league record (3-2) when it hosts Drew this Saturday at 2 p.m. The Cardinals are 7-1 in their last eight games, topping 80 points in all but one of those contests. Catholic is also averaging 92.3 ppg in its last three matchups, while holding foes to only 70.3.
