Box Score Chestertown, Md. – The Catholic University of America volleyball team battled down to the final point of the match on Wednesday night at Washington College. CUA made it 14-13 in the fifth set, three points away from closing it out, but the point went against the Cardinals in the five set loss.
Catholic took the first set, 25-15, but Washington came back to take the second, 25-18. The Cardinals responded with a 25-18 win of its own, but WC forced the deciding set with 25-20 win.
Sophomore outside hitter Maria Cristina Juelle had season-high 21 kills in the full-match effort, going for a double-double with 12 digs. She also added a service ace and a block assist.
Juelle's classmate Brynn Cooley also went for a double-double with 10 kills and 18 digs while junior libero posted a match-high 27 digs.
The Cardinals return to Landmark play this weekend at Susquehanna, also facing Juniata in its second conference play weekend this Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
