Box Score 2 Kings Point, N.Y. – The Catholic University of America volleyball team picked up its first Landmark win of the season, defeating conference weekend host Merchant Marine Academy, 3-0. The Cardinals were also edged by Scranton, 3-1.
Sophomore Maria Cristina Juelle led the Cardinals in the straight-sets win over the Academy, registering 12 kills.
Catholic won big in the second set, limiting their opponent to just four points in the 25-4 win.
Sophomore setter Michelle Seals totaled 39 assists in just three sets, keying the Cardinal attack.
Juelle also posted an impressive double-double against Scranton, posting a team-high 14 kills while adding 14 digs. She also registered four service aces and a block but could not overcome four players with double-digit kills for Scranton.
CUA was able to take a nine-point win in the first set against Scranton, but were edged in close games in the next two before falling in the fourth.
Catholic continues its 16-game road trek this coming Wednesday when it visits Washington College at 7 p.m.
