WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America volleyball played 10 sets on Saturday afternoon inside the DuFour Center as it hosted the annual CUA Guetle Invitational. The Cardinals went to five against both Bridgewater and Marymount, but could not pull out the wins.

It was some strong volleyball played on both sides in each match as a 28-26 third set went in favor of CUA against Bridgewater before seeing the fifth and deciding set against Marymount go 17-15 against the Cardinals.

Against BC, Catholic took the first set in impressive fashion, 25-14, but the Eagles regrouped to take the next, 25-20. CUA won a back-and-forth third, but Bridgewater came back to take the next two, 25-11 and 15-10.

Sophomore Tara Rempel had a strong match to start the morning against Bridgewater, posting a team-high 13 kills, hitting at a .478 clip. She also added two digs, two blocks solos and two block assists.

Junior outside hitter Mary Paige Nesfeder double-doubled in the match with 11 kills and 10 digs, adding two assists.

In match two CUA again took the first set, 25-23, but Marymount came back to take the next as the sets played out the same as in the first game. Catholic looked to be able to split for the second straight day, but at 12-12 in the fourth, Marymount earned the point and CUA was unable to pull ahead again.

Kills about in the match against Marymount as CUA's opponent boasted four players with 13-or-more put-aways. Sophomore Brynn Cooley led Catholic with 12 kills, pacing three players with double-digit kills.

Cooley and Nesfeder also double-doubled in the match. Cooley dug out 14 while Nesfeder posted an 11-13 line.

The Cardinals have played six of 10 matches at home this season, but now CUA begins a long road stretch that does not see them return until October 17, playing the next 15 matches away from the DuFour Center.
