Box Score 2 WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America softball team took both games in a double header against its neighbor Trinity University on Tuesday afternoon (25-0, 13-0).
Megan Colline started game one on the rubber for Catholic. Colline threw seven strikeouts in three innings to earn the win while Kimberly Giurlando earned the win in game two, after pitching three innings with five strikeouts. Sydney McGrath closed out the last two innings of both games, throwing 11 total strike outs through the afternoon.
The Cardinals ended game one ahead 25-0 through 4.5 innings. Rachel Valdes led the CUA offensive efforts with five RBI's and one run while Molly Macneill notched four RBI's, two runs, and two stolen bases. Rebekah Hoisl batted in two runners and came across the plate four times with three stolen bases.
Sarah Carey entered the game for the Cardinals as a pinch runner in the first inning and remained in the lineup as the designated player for the rest of game one. Carey notched two runs, two stolen bases and brought in two RBI's.
Game two end in the fifth inning when the Cardinals led the Tigers 13-0.
Kathleen Hulette and Carey made their first career starts and each brought home one RBI for the Cards. CUA's Morgan Gieser and Tatum Kelly each scored two runs and brought home one runner.
In the bottom of the third, following a double from Macneill, Tayler Falvey crushed a 2-run homer over the center field fence. Falvey notched three RBI's total in the event with Macneill notching two. Mcgrath entered to pinch hit in the third and earned her first career RBI.
The Cardinals will head to Gwynedd Mercy University to take on the Griffens in a double header on Thursday, April 23 beginning at 3 p.m.
