WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America softball team fell twice in a double header against Washington College on Friday afternoon in our nation's capital.

In game one, the Cardinals fell to a 2-0 deficit after the Shorewomen earned runs in the third and fourth innings. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth Amy Laughner cranked a double into left center to put herself in scoring position. Kristina Lozupone stepped into the batter's box and sent a single into center field to score Laughner, cutting the Washington College lead in half.

The Shorewomen brought one more over the plate in the top of the seventh to insure their game one win over the Cardinals, 3-1, before heading into game two.

Catholic University's Kim Giurlando was charged with the loss after throwing a season high eight strikeouts in the full seven innings. CUA's Megan Colline took the rubber in the second game of the afternoon, pitching all seven inning and being charged with the loss.

The Cardinals got on the board early with a run in the bottom of the second to go ahead 1-0 when Rachel Valdes drove a single down the left field line to score Alyssa Keane.

Washington College tied the game at one in the fourth inning but a 2-RBI at-bat from Laughner in the bottom of the fifth gave Catholic a 3-1 advantage. The Cards headed into the seventh appearing to have game two on lock but went onto give up five additional runs, falling to a 6-3 deficit at the end of the game.

CUA will host the Elizabethtown Blue Jays on Sunday, April 19 in a Landmark Conference double header beginning at 1 p.m. Game two will commence 20 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
