Women's Tennis Claims 9-0 Shutout Over Goucher

WASHINGTON- The Catholic University of America women's tennis team bounced back from the recent loss against Elizabethtown with a shutout against the Gophers of Goucher College, 9-0, on Monday in Towson, Md.

Liz Harvey and Laura Torsiello started things right with an 8-4 win. Eliana Martinez/Jenna Gietl (8-1) and Maria Flores/Sarah MacLean (8-4) kept the streak alive.

In singles action, five out of the six singles matches were decided in straight setters. Harvey (6-0, 6-3), Martinez (6-1, 6-2), and Gietl (6-1, 6-2) did not lose more than three games between two sets. Torsiello (6-1, 7-6[7-2]) overcame a second set tiebreaker to win 6-1, 7-6(7-2).

Emma Needham used the momentum of a first set win 6-4 to close out her opponent 6-2. Flores closed out the match with a 3rd set tiebreaker win (2-6,6-2, [10-8]).

 With this 9-0 win, the Cardinals will take this stride going into the playoffs.
