Box Score WASHINGTON- The Catholic University of America men's lacrosse team proved unable to keep their conference streak going, falling to the Blue Jays 8-4 on Saturday at Cardinal Stadium.
The Cardinals honored their 13 seniors prior to the game, whose dedication to the CUA men's lacrosse program brought many wins over the last four years.
Junior goalie Harrison Holak started between the pipes for the Cardinals, making an impressive 13 saves for the Catholic defense.
Catholic fell into a quick 2-0 deficit in the first quarter, managing only one shot on Blue Jay's goalie Chris Wenger. Elizabethtown upped the score to three with three minutes left in the half. Determined to put the Cardinals on the board before halftime, freshman attack Samuel Montgomery scored with exactly two minutes left in the second quarter. Montgomery was assisted by sophomore middie Ethan Rodriquez. Elizabethtown scored one more goal with only eight seconds left in the half, leaving the Cardinals down 4-1 heading into the third quarter.
Sophomore midfielder Victor Licata sprung out of the Cardinal's huddle and scored an unassisted goal just one minute into the second half. Elizabethtown was not phased. The Blue Jays scored three unanswered goals in the remainder of the third quarter, putting the Cardinals down 7-2. The visitor's eight and final goal came just three minutes into the fourth quarter.
With 4:31 left in the game, Licata scored his second of the day, decreasing the Cardinals deficit 7-3. He was followed less than one minute later by senior attack Brian Keith, who finalized the score 7-4 in favor of the Blue Jays.
The loss sets Catholic at an overall 6-4 record, now 1-2 in the conference. The Cardinals will travel to Washington, Pa. to take on the Washington and Jefferson Presidents on Thursday, April 2, for a 4:00 p.m. game.
