Catholic Downs Mary Washington, 19-14

Fredericksburg, Va.- The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team brought down Mary Washington University 19-14 after playing to a 9-9 tie through halftime on Wednesday, March 18 in Fredericksburg, Va.

The win brings CUA to an overall 4-1 record and drop MWU to 5-2 on the season.

The Cards saw their first goal of the game off the opening draw, 41 seconds into play, as Alexis Bosilovic slotted the ball into the back of the goal. The Eagles answered with two of their own before Madeline Wilson gave CUA their next goal off a pass from Lindsay Brophy.

With CUA and MWU each having two goals under their belt within the first five minutes of the matchup the Eagles took a 6-2 advantage over the Cards scoring four additional unanswered goals before the 10 minutes mark.

The Cardinals went on a 3 goal run with 20 minutes to play in the first half with unassisted goals from Clair Schmitzer and Brophy. Bosilovic followed, tossing her second goal of the night into the back of the net off a pass from Jenna Van Middelem to cut the Eagles lead to just one.

Anna Stumme notched the Cards next goal, while Laura Dunn grabbed a pair to finishing out the first half in a 9-9 tie.

CUA struck early again, 43 seconds into the second half with a goal from Van Middelem. In the back-and-forth battle the score stayed even at 11- all before the Cards took off with four unanswered to make the game 15-11. CUA continued with the momentum to win the game 19-14.

Wilson completed a second-half hat-trick plus one, scoring five total in the game while Dunn slotted goal number three and four of the night and Brophy scored her third of the game. Ana Brandenburg and Nicole Laitner each notched one in the back half of the game to help CUA to their victory.

The Eagles outshot the Cardinals 36-29 but Tricia Pehnke was a rock between the posts making 14 saves and earning her fourth win of the 2015 season.

The Cardinals return home on Saturday, March 21 to open Landmark Conference play against Elizabethtown College at 1:00 p.m. at Cardinals Stadium in Washington, D.C.
