Box Score WASHINGTON- The Catholic University of America men's lacrosse team proved unable to keep their winning streak going on Sun., March 15, as they fell to the visiting Scranton Royals 8-5 in Cardinal Stadium.
Coming off a win over Salve Regina, the Cardinals hosted the Royals in their first home game since Feb. 24, against Hampden Sydney. The teams both shot even at 32 on the day, but Catholic led with 15 successful clears out of 16 attempts. Starting in goal for the Cardinals was junior Harrison Holak (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks East), who totaled 11 saves against the Royals.
Sophomore midfielder Victor Licata (Towson, Md. / Loyola-Blakefield) put the Cardinals up 1-0 just 10 minutes into the game, scoring the only goal of the first quarter. Licata proved valuable again in the third, as his goal assisted by freshman middie Jonathan Curran (Ridgefield, Conn. / Ridgefield) regained the Cardinal's lead 5-4.
Curran recorded an unassisted goal in the second. Sophomore midfielder Dylan Neville (Port Washington, N.Y. / Kellenberg Memorial) provided two assists within the last three minutes of the first half to freshman attack Samuel Montgomery (West Chester, Pa. / Bishop Shanahan) and sophomore attack Tim Keith (King of Prussia, Pa. / Archbishop Carroll). In the end, Catholic was unable to hold off Scranton as the Royals scored four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter.
"We didn't get the ball enough on offense in the second half," said head coach Brooks Singer. "We need to play four quarters. We can't just have a letdown in the second half like we did today."
The Cardinals now hold a 5-3 record on the season, and will travel to Merchant Marine on Saturday, March 21 for a 12:00 p.m. game.
