Cardinals Fall Twice in Florida

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America dopped their final two games of their spring break series, 6-1 to Kean University and 9-1 to Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday, March 14 in Winter Haven, Fla.

In game one of the Saturday double header the game was scoreless through three innings. Kean drove in two in the top of the fourth to register first on the scoreboard. The Cardinals answered with one run in the bottom of the inning. Amy Laughner opened the inning with a double to left field and Erin Adams sent a RBI sacrifice fly to right field to score Laughner.

The scoreboard read 2-1 in favor of the Cougars through the fifth inning. The Cardinals gave up back-to-back two run innings in the sixth and seventh and could not convert anything offensively ultimately ending the game 6-1.

Megan Colline saw her second loss of the season on the mound after pitching all seven innings and throwing three strike outs.

In game two Eastern Connecticut struck early earing a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Cardinals tied the game in the top of the third when Kristina Lozupone was driven home by Adams with a single to center field.

The Warriors answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-1 lead over the Cards. The CUA defense could not hold down the ECS offense and they score three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, advancing their lead to 9-1 and ending the game after five innings.

Catholic's Sydney McGrath was charged with the loss after pitching two inning and throwing two strike outs. Victoria Marcavage and Monica Peters each saw time on the mound pitching one inning a piece. Marcavage threw one strike out.

The Cardinals now sit 5-5 overall in the 2015 season.

CUA return home from their spring break trip and take on Mary Washington in their home opener, double header, on Wednesday, March 18 beginning at 3:00 p.m.
