Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Winter Haven, Fla. - The Catholic University of America softball team dropped their first two losses of the 2015 season on Tuesday, March 20 against Westminster College (Pa.) (4-3), and Hiram College (6-2), respectively.

The losses bring CUA to an even 2-2 record while WCPA advances to 5-2 and HC moves to 2-4 on the season.

In the first game of the day Westminster took an early 3-0 lead over Catholic in the first inning. After a bases loaded walk and Cardinal fielding error the Titans finished out the inning grounding out to Tatum Kelly on second base.

The Cardinals made a comeback in the top of the third as Amy Laughner sent a line drive down the third base line to drive in Christy Sanchez and Monica Peters. Kristina Lozupone reached first base on a Titan fielding error and Erin Adam grounded a single to the short stop to load the bases. Alyssa Keane grounded the ball to short batting in Laughner for the Cards final run of the event.

Catholic held the tie through the bottom of the fifth when the Titans advanced home to take the 4-3 led. With two more opportunities at bat the Cards were unable to convert a run, recording their first loss of the season.

Adams and Sanchez led the Cards in hits with two and Amy Laughner slugged two doubles and two RBI's.

In their second outing of the day Catholic trailed Hiram 4-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth. The Cards cut the Terries lead in half when Amy Laughner took a bases loaded opportunity to bat in Julie Keleti and bring Peters home on a fielding error.

With a 4-2 deficit the Cards allowed two additional runs in the top of the sixth for the Terriers to secure the 6-2 victory.

CUA had seven hits in the afternoon game, Kean and Keleti each hit a pair while Laughner, Adams and Finley each had one of their own.

Sydney McGrath pitched 5.1 innings and recorded her first loss of the season.

The Cards will take on Farmingdale State and Carroll (Wis.) on Thursday, March 12.
