Cardinals Advance to ECAC Semifinals On A Mid-Week 74-67 Win

WASHINGTON – Emily Grabiak recorded her 13th double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds to help the No. 1-seeded CUA Cardinals  advance to the semifinal round of the 2014 ECAC  Division III Women's Basketball  South Tournament after 74-67 win over No. 8 Neumann University.  

Along with Grabiak's double-double, Josephine Migash collected 13 points, and Michelle Desantis and Jayni Webster tallied 11 points apiece.

Catholic quickly took a double-figure lead during the first half with a 14-4 lead by the 13:30 mark.  The Knights came within five on a 5-0 run.  By the half, the mighty red and black led 38-24 on an overall 44 percent shooting percentage from all areas (23-52).

In the final 20 minutes of play, CUA maintained a double-digit lead until the 2:35 mark.  On six consecutive points from Neumann's Jessica Schlesman, the visiting Knights brought the margin lead to nine.

Neumann continued to take advantage of the Cardinal's two-minute scoreless setback to come within five, before Catholic clinched a 74-67 opening-round win.

The Cards return to the DuFour Athletic Center on Saturday to host No. 4 the Presidents of Washington and Jefferson, who conquered No. 5 Marymount this evening.
