Grabiak, Power Lead Cardinals to 63-53 Win Over USMMA

WASHINGTON – Emily Grabiak attained a team-high 21 points, as Bridget Power scored a career-high 12 points in CUA's 63-53 win over Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday at King's Point, N.Y., extending the mighty red and black's winning streak to seven games.

Catholic advances to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the Landmark Conference, while USMMA drops 2-8 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

After trailing in the opening minutes of action, Melissa Errico scored two layups along with a three ball from Grabiak to take an 11-10 lead at the 16:05 mark.  CUA advanced a 10-point margin lead, ending the first half with a score of 35-26.

Following the halftime intermission, Jayni Webster netted a basket from behind the arc and dropped a single shot from the charity stripe leading the Cards to an 18-point lead by the 15:14 mark.

The Mariners carved away at the 18-point lead on a 15-5 run to come with eight points.  Despite their effort, CUA regained their double-figure advantage and cruised to a 10-point 63-53 win.

Merchant Marine's offense was directed by Demi VanDerWal with a team-high 21 points and Rachel Wehlburg with 11 points, while Julie Mall and Rebecca Resor pulled down 11 boards apiece.

The Cardinals return Washington, D.C., to host a three-game conference homestead beginning with Juniata on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m.
