WASHINGTON – The wins keep coming for No. 20/21 CUA with the Cardinals downing Merchant Marine Academy 67-30 on Saturday inside the DuFour Center to remain unbeaten (12-0, 2-0).  Senior Jill Woerner had a strong game with 19 points on 9 of 16 shooting, while the CUA defense forced the Mariners (6-5, 1-3) into 23.5-percent shooting and 20 turnovers.

Leading 6-4 a little over six minutes in, CUA went on the offensive and unleashed a 24-2 run that spanned 11:05 and put the Cardinals on top 30-6.

The Mariners were able to score the final five points of the half however, cutting the Cardinals lead to 30-11 at the break.

USMMA then scored five of the first six points in the second half to make it a 15-point game, before the Cards scored five straight to open up a 20-point advantage.

Emily Grabiak's 3-pointer with 14:53 to play extended the lead to 30, and after Dana Coronato splashed a shot from beyond the arc, the Cardinals were in front by 39.

That was as large as the lead would get, as CUA cruised to victory No. 12.

Josephine Migash and Grabiak finished with eight points apiece for the Cards, while Coronato added seven.  Grabiak and Karlyn Dixon led the way in assists with six and five, respectively, and Kelli Josephsen was the leading rebounder with six.

Head Coach Matt Donohue was able to unload his bench in the second half and the Cardinal reserves took advantage.  Rachel Ferri (3 points, 3 assists), Mary Hagaman (2 points, 1 rebound), Patrice Ermilio (2 points, 1 assist, 1 steal), Jayni Webster (2 rebounds, 1 assist), Brigid Gannon (2 points, 4 rebounds), Liz Briones (4 points, 5 rebounds), Kristen Walheim (5 points, 1 steal) and Jackie Waldron (2 rebounds) made the most of their opportunity and made sure CUA did not miss a beat with them on the floor.

CUA converted the 20 USMMA turnovers into 30 points and also held a decisive 28-12 advantage in points in the paint.  The Cardinals dominated the backboards all game, holding an impressive 52-37 lead in rebounds.

Merchant Marine Academy was led offensively by Roshenda Josephs with 11 points and 11 boards, while Kristine Walz added eight points.

CUA now embarks on one of its toughest stretches of the season, beginning on Monday evening when the Cardinals head to Pennsylvania to face No. 11 York at 6 p.m.  

CUA then hosts Juniata on Wednesday, before traveling to Moravian on Saturday.
