Box Score 2 TOWSON, Md. – CUA opened Landmark Conference play on
Saturday with a pair of impressive wins, downing Scranton 3-0 in
the opener, before taking down Susquehanna 3-1. Following
today's action, the Cardinals are 12-5 overall and 2-0 in the
conference.
In the day's first match, CUA defeated Scranton in straight
sets, earning wins by scores of 25-23, 25-9 and 25-19.
Claudia Jean had the first of two terrific matches for CUA,
registering a double-double with 15 kills and 19 digs.
Bridget Kulesh finished with 12 kills and three digs, while
freshman Mariana Cruz handed out 34 assists and totaled 12
digs.
Katie Chefalas and Kristina Purcell added 14 digs apiece, while
Kelly Crimmins totaled four blocks and five kills.
Scranton received 10 kills and 10 digs from Julia Crilly, and 11
digs from Marissa Every.
Against Susquehanna, CUA won the first set 25-21, before
Susquehanna evened things up with a 25-19 set two win. The
Cardinals then bounced back to earn a 25-20 win in set
number-three, and they closed things out with a 25-18 set four
win.
This time around, Jean finished with an impressive 21 kills and 38
digs, while Purcell (33) and Chefalas (21) also totaled eye-opening
dig totals.
Kulesh was terrific as well, with 16 kills and 11 digs, while Cruz
dished out a match-high 50 assists to go along with eight digs.
Audrey Bizak added four kills, three digs and a block, and
Crimmins registered six kills and five digs.
CUA closes out its conference weekend on Sunday when the Cardinals
face Goucher at 3 p.m. in Towson.
