Box Score 2 ARLINGTON, Va. – The Cardinals split a pair of matches on
Saturday in what was their final tune-up before conference play
begins next weekend. CUA (10-5) fell to host Marymount 3-1 in
its first match, before downing Hollins by the same 3-1 score in
the day's second match.
CUA gave the Saints all they could handle in the first match, with
Marymount taking the first set 26-24 and the second set
25-18. The Cardinals rallied for a 25-19 win in the third
set, but Marymount clinched the match with a 25-18 win in set
number-four.
Four Cardinals finished with double-digit digs, led by senior
Kristina Purcell, who totaled 26. Katie Chefalas (16),
Bridget Kulesh (15) and Kalen Backe (12) joined her in double
figures.
Backe also registered 13 kills to notch a double-double, while
Fallon Foster handed out 18 assists and Mariana Cruz finished with
15.
Kelly Crimmins added nine kills for CUA, and Chefalas and Kulesh
both finished with six.
In the second match of the afternoon, CUA earned its 10th win of
the year by downing Hollins 3-1. The Cardinals dropped the
first set 25-22, but battled back to win the next three by scores
of 25-23, 25-8 and 25-19.
Foster had a terrific match with 40 assists, while Purcell
finished with 30 digs and five assists.
Chefalas totaled 18 digs and nine kills, while Kulesh led the
Cardinals with 13 kills, to go along with eight digs and a pair of
blocks.
Crimmins registered 11 kills this time, while Backe finished with
nine and Audrey Bizak totaled eight.
CUA will head to Towson, Md. next weekend for the first Landmark
Conference weekend of action this season. The Cardinals will
face Scranton (3:30) and Susquehanna (6:30) on Saturday and host
Goucher at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
